Our story

Serving Astoria families since 1938

Scouting America Troop 23 is chartered by the Hellenic Orthodox Community of Astoria — St. Demetrios Cathedral. Here, outdoor adventure, youth leadership, service and Eastern Orthodox faith formation come together.

Our purpose

Preparing young people to make a positive impact

We instill citizenship, leadership and service, preparing members to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lives. Our vision is to be a beacon of character development, outdoor adventure and ethical leadership.

The twelfth point: Reverent

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. At Troop 23, reverence is supported through our parish life and our relationship with the Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting.
